ESG Security’s proactive approach to campus security at Coventry College
Coventry College is located near the city centre of Coventry, and being the only College in the local area has around 5,000 students. On a day-to-day basis there are a significant number of people on-site, to keep safe and protect from harm. Campus security and safety is an important feature of post-secondary education. The College is committed to providing security 24-hours per day, 7 days a week including all bank holidays.
Equally important, is how campus safety is a significant factor in College choice. If crime on-campus was to increase, the College’s reputation would suffer, and potentially result in fewer applicants choosing to study at the College. Crucially the amount of students on roll will affect the College’s funding. To address these challenges ESG Security provide 24-hour Security Officers, and Reception/Concierge Security Services.
ESG Security Officers maintain a close working relationship with the police to effectively protect staff and students, uphold campus rules, and assist with crime investigations. As part of their duties our officers carry out weekly fire tests on campus and play a pivotal role in escalating on-site incidents to the client’s management team. Throughout the year the college hosts events including exams, enrolment, and open days which we help to ensure is a success by monitoring the enhanced security risks.
The provision of effective security services to the college is not only about the prevention of crime and the management of incidents, but also about the contribution to the positive image of the college by creating a safe and welcoming environment.
Due to the vast open environment of the campus, ESG Security provide a team of nine officers during the day. Our officers are as skilled in providing a warm welcome to staff, students, and visitors as they are in providing sufficiently robust security to keep the premises secure.
ESG Security is an approved NOCN training centre, which enables us to deliver bespoke, regulated qualifications through the organisations endorsed training programme.
Customer Service Improvement
ESG Security’s Training Manager developed a Communicating with Customers module. The module is intended to specifically highlight the importance of using tact and diplomacy, to foster positive interactions, and improve the image of security officers at the college.
Conflict Management
Basic conflict management training does not consider the college environment. ESG Security’s Training Manager has ensured conflict management training on this contract, reflects our officers work around children. When tasked with intervening, our officers approach incidents in a non-confrontational manner.
In summary, ESG Security provide experienced SIA and enhanced DBS checked officers that have a suitable background to work with 16-18+ year-olds. We take the College’s requirements seriously; whether it’s responding to emergencies, patrolling, monitoring CCTV, or the many day-to-day ways we help the College run, we’re here 24-hours to support Coventry College’s staff and students in their hour of need.
