The Home Office recently issued guidance for the security industry, highlighting the risks posed by potential clients representing hostile states. The guidance emphasises the need for those working within the security industry to conduct thorough due diligence when approached by clients. It advises security businesses to verify client identity and to be suspicious if a potential client requests sensitive information.

Client identity – Security businesses should be clear about who they are working for and if they’re not an investigation should take place to establish whether the potential client represents a threat to national security.

Not providing sensitive information – Security businesses should be suspicious of potential clients requesting sensitive information.

Turn down work – If a potential client does not provide adequate information, it is recommended the work is declined.
