“A much needed and welcome initiative
As members of the scheme, businesses have access to a secure intelligence database where they can communicate with the police, share news and log incidents.
Key actions of the Safe and Secure scheme:
- Deployment of SIA-accredited Street Wardens to provide a visible and reassuring presence. These wardens patrol the area, engaging with the public and businesses to deter criminal activity.
- The wardens use a crime reporting app, to coordinate immediate responses to criminal activity. This system allows for real-time communication and information sharing amongst businesses and the police.
- The wardens assist retailers with loss prevention and identifying known shoplifters. They advise store staff on how they can identify and support vulnerable customers, manage conflict and report incidents effectively.
- Equipped with body-worn video cameras, the wardens can diffuse situations and gather evidence for the police when necessary.
