The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has confirmed that the number of individuals holding an active licence has surpassed 500,000 for the first time.
This record highlights the growing reliance on security personnel in a range of environments, including the night-time economy, retail and commercial property. The SIA, which regulates the private security industry, attributes the rise to public safety demands, increased responsibilities, and a broader recognition of the essential role security operatives play in society.
“This is a landmark moment for the security industry,” said Michelle Russell, Chief Executive of the SIA. “It shows how vital security operatives have become in keeping the public safe, supporting emergency services and protecting public spaces.”
