A guide to Security Industry Authority licence renewal.

Renew your SIA licence – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Your Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence will not renew automatically. You must apply for a renewal if you want to keep working in the same role when your licence expires.

If it has been more than three years since your previous licence was active, you will not be able to renew. If your licence has expired, you will need to apply for a new one. You will also need to get a new, full qualification.

If it has been less than three years since your previous licence was active, the SIA will still accept the qualification you already hold. You must submit your application within the three years. If you apply for a close protection, door supervision or security guarding licence, you will also need to get a top-up qualification. This is because new subjects have been added to the full qualification that you will not have covered when you did the training previously.

You must have a valid first aid qualification before you can take one of the top-up qualifications.
